We design the complete structure of a building, from the ground it stands on to the roof. Concrete, steel, composite, timber and masonry, each chosen for what it does best, in a scheme that serves the architecture and that a contractor can build without surprises.

Below ground is where much of a project's risk sits. We design foundations, basements and retaining walls for difficult ground, high water tables and tight urban sites, working alongside geotechnical consultants and contractors from the start.

For existing buildings we survey, assess and strengthen, including seismic vulnerability assessment and retrofit, keeping as much of the original fabric, character and embodied carbon as possible.

Many projects reach tender with a structure that works but is not the most efficient. We review existing designs and propose alternatives that use less material, cost less and carry less carbon, while keeping the architecture, performance and safety intact.

Working alongside contractors at tender stage, we have achieved reductions of 11% to 25% in the cost of structure, foundations and retaining walls, often with a shorter programme and simpler work on site.

Every alternative is checked against the original design intent, the contractor's methods and the programme, and we take it through to a fully coordinated construction issue.

A project succeeds when the right information reaches the right people at the right time. We manage the engineering design from kick-off to handover: setting the programme, coordinating disciplines and consultants, tracking deliverables and keeping clients informed at every milestone.

Every project is fully modelled in BIM and coordinated in a federated model with the architecture and building services. Clashes are found and resolved on screen before they reach site: around 90% of clashes between disciplines are caught at design stage, and we have led the coordination of all engineering disciplines on more than 20 projects.

Our process is agile, with short planning cycles, regular reviews and open communication with every party, so decisions are made early and changes are absorbed without losing time.

We build the software behind our engineering. Our computational engineers develop tools that link the architectural model, structural analysis and drawing production into one continuous, checked workflow.

Artificial intelligence now sits inside that workflow. We use it to read and organise project information, to explore and compare structural options early, to check models and drawings for inconsistencies, and to take repetitive production off our engineers' desks. Every result is reviewed by an engineer: the tools make us faster, the judgement stays human.
